The economic impact of greyhound racing is found in urban centers as well as rural communities. With tracks in 7 states and greyhound breeding farms in 26 states, thousands of people benefit from the economic activity that accompanies greyhound racing.

Track Impacts

Today’s greyhound tracks employ more than 14,000 people with an annual payroll of over $194 million. In addition, tracks pay millions in taxes to federal, state and local governments, including:

• More than $40 million in pari-mutuel taxes
• Over $18 million in payroll taxes
• In excess of $12 million in corporate income tax
• Nearly $11 million in local property taxes
• Over $5 million in sales and use taxes

In addition, tracks spend more than $356 million annually on purchased goods and services, and pay out more than $100 million in purses.

Tracks are generous neighbors in their communities, giving more than $6 million to nearly 1,500 charities, including greyhound adoption groups as well as community health and service organizations.

Greyhound Farm Impacts

Family-run greyhound breeding farms are important contributors in the mostly rural communities where they are located. Greyhound farms represent an investment of over $150 million in land, buildings and equipment, and purchase goods and services worth approximately $96 million each year.
