The Greyhound Adoption Person of the Year Award was started in 2007 by the American Greyhound Track Operators Association, and became a program of the American Greyhound Council (AGC) in 2010. The award was changed to the Greyhound Adoption Program of the Year in 2014.
The AGC, which funds and oversees adoption grants and other greyhound welfare programs for greyhound racing, is proud to recognize the dedicated volunteers who give so generously of their time, money, energy and passion to ensure that every adoptable greyhound finds a forever home upon retirement.
Any individual or organization may nominate a candidate for the Greyhound Adoption Program of the Year award. Each of the two organizations selected as winners each year will receive a $1,000 donation. To be eligible to receive a GAPY Award, the nominated organization must have adopted out or facilitated the adoption of at least 36 greyhounds during the previous calendar year.
Nominations for the 2016 Greyhound Adoption Program of the Year Award are now open.
